Laser Hair Removal
The demand for laser hair removal has sky rocketed thanks to improved results and reliability as an effect of advancement in laser technology. One of the first things people ask about is the costs involved in such a treatment. The short answer: it depends. The long answer, well, this is the long answer. As with most cosmetic procedures, pricing is done on a case by case basis depending on a number of factors.
The final cost for laser hair removal depends on three main things. The primary driver is the amount of work involved. Different areas of the body have different levels of sensitivity as well as accessibility that make them priced area by area. Then there is the number of sessions required to completely remove the hair in one particular area. And finally it depends on the doctor’s fee for his or her service. When consulting with a doctor to determine whether you are a candidate for laser hair removal, be sure to ask for a quote so you have an idea of what the cost may be as well as how it is determined.
Different clinics use a variety of methods to come up with the final bill for the procedure. Some will charge on based solely on time, and usually by the minute. Some will charge a flat fee for each session or a series of sessions. Others will charge per laser pulse. There are other methods but these are the three most common ways laser hair removal is priced.
Some laser hair removal pricing is done on a time basis. Clinics which use this method of pricing will commonly charge for every fifteen minutes of treatment. Before you agree to treatments for a clinic employing this pricing practice, your overall cost might end up more expensive if the laser equipment and the technicians are slow and relatively few hairs can be removed in fifteen minutes.
In other clinics where the flat fee pricing method is used, the price in one area of the body should be priced the same for every individual regardless of the size or amount of hair involved in that particular area. It is usually measured in the number of sessions or series of sessions as the doctor sees fit for that area and the equipment involved.
The fee per pulse method is another form of laser hair removal pricing. A pulse is each time the laser is fired, and pulses commonly happen in under a second. Each pulse penetrates about a hundred hair follicles, so the more hair to be removed, the more pulses will be required.
In many cases where the per pulse pricing method is used, clinics will charge a minimum number of pulses to begin. This means if your hair removal needs requires fewer pulses than the minimum you will still be charged for that amount. Usually, the practice is quite fair and many patients are happy because they tend to go over the minimum, and anything over the minimum is charged a reasonable rate somewhere to the tune of one dollar per pulse. In repeat sessions when the hair grows back thinner, it is cost effective to go back for more treatment since less hair needs to be removed.
The laser hair removal pricing you receive will be determined by your particular needs. The thickness and amount of your hair, the area of your body which will be treated, and the number of treatments required will all influence your eventual treatment costs.
